Beef short ribs, polenta, and kale

This is my idea of a good time… anise scented, braised beef short ribs made from Bittman’s recipe (it has carrots in it), over creamy polenta with a side of fresh kale, cooked with onion and vinegar. Perfect Valentine’s Day, being snowed in with my sweetie, kind of food. I’m drinking a Leffe blond Belgian ale that I got for him, because he likes rich ales (so do I). For dessert, we were feeling kind of trashy, so I got a frozen turtle pie from the supermarket and we each had a slice.
